Kay Hawkins Phillips

Kay Hawkins Phillips, age 73 of Brownington, Missouri, formerly of Temple, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Dennis Ng officiating. Burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00pm Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the funeral home. Kay was born on May 29, 1943 to Herb and Jewell Hawkins in Borger, Texas. She was raised in Teague, Texas and became a long time resident of Temple, Texas. On August 1, 1970, Kay married Edd Phillips and he preceded her in death on September 20, 2012. Kay retired from a successful career as a professional dog handler and breeder. She was known throughout the dog show world as “The Fox Hound Lady.” Kay had several passions which included caring for her animals, proudly supporting the troops and riding her motorcycle. She was a long time member of the Patriot Guard Riders, Cen-Tex Road Rider Association and the American Kennel Club. She was the Founder and President of a local chapter of Women in the Wind known as “The Lone Star Ladies”. Kay Phillips was cherished by her loved ones as the family matriarch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Phillips; her mother and stepfather, Jewell and Elmer Womack; father and stepmother, Herb and Mary Hawkins; brothers, Russell Hawkins and Herb (Butch) Hawkins; and her sisters, Sonya Jo Kitchens, Jerry Faler and Julie Womack. Survivors include daughters, Lisa Jo Brenek and partner Jennifer Worsham of Corsicana Texas, Pat and Doyne Gregory of Brownington Missouri, Resa and Paul Sams of Clay City, Kentucky and Rena Phillips-Turner of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; step-children, Pam Phillips of Belton, Texas, Mike and Renee Phillips of Lott, Texas, Debbie Jo Oliver of Buckholts, Texas and Russell and Pam Phillips of Belton, Texas along with 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and countless friends whose life she touched and became a cherished extension of her family.
