Larry Cortez

Larry Cortez, age 42 of Temple, died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at a local care center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Ernest Minor and Lupe Cortez officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-8:00 PM Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the funeral home. Larry was born on January 10, 1971 in Lamesa, Texas to Lasaro Cortez and Guadalupe Ortega Cortez. He worked in construction for years in Temple. He was a single, devoted parent to two daughters, Samantha and Tabitha and one son, Larry. Larry had several brothers and sisters, and his brother Cornelio was with him until he took his last breath. Larry was preceded in death by one brother, Gavino Cortez; paternal grandparents, Bernardino and Maria Cortez; and maternal grandfather, Gregorio Ortega. Survivors include his children, Samantha Cortez, Larry Cortez and Tabitha Cortez, all of Temple; mother, Guadalupe Cortez of Temple; father, Lasaro Cortez, Sr. of Temple; brothers, Victor Cortez of Morgan's Point, Abram Cortez of Lamesa, Cornelio Cortez, Gregorio Cortez and Lasaro Cortez, Jr., all of Temple; sisters, Martha Casarez Cortez of Austin, Rachael Cortez Garibay, Delilah Cortez, Sarah Cortez and Elodia Cortez Tuttle, all of Temple; and numerous nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to Extraco Bank for the benefit of Larry's kids.
