

Lillian Elizabeth Childress, 96, of Belton died Thursday February 3, 2011 in an assisted living facility in Belton. Mrs. Childress was born in Rogers, TX on May 5, 1914 to Sanford and Vallie Ann Vaught Scroggins, early settlers. Mrs. Childress attended Rogers schools and graduated from Rogers High as Valedictorian her senior year. She also attended Texas Christian University. She was a volunteer at Scott & White Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for over 28 years as a Yellow Bird, a charter member of the Bluebonnet Club of Temple, and an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Class of FUMC-Temple. She married William E. Childress in 1935 in Tyler, TX. She and her husband lived in Dallas prior to moving to Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Marjorie Berg and Mildred Reagan, a brother, Tom Scroggins. She is survived by her two loving sons, Tony Childress and wife, Donna of Belton and J. Donald Childress and wife, Sidney of Atlanta, GA., Grandchildren, J. D. Childress and family of Atlanta, GA., Trevor Childress of Chattanooga, TN., Stuart Childress of Boston, MA., McKinley Childress of Charlottesville, VA., Mary Collier and Preston Childress of Atlanta, GA., Michael Frier of Keller, TX., Terri Mangham and Traci Heitz of Denver, CO. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and a niece, Suzanne Benjamin of Las Vegas, NV. Elizabeth will be remembered as a devoted wife to her husband and a loving mother to her two sons and a wonderful person to her many friends. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Temple with the Rev. Tom Robbins and Rev. Hubert Austin officiating.
