

LTC (Ret.) Stephen W. Burres, Jr. December 16, 1942 - April 20, 2012 Funeral services for LTC (Ret.) Stephen W. Burres, Jr., 69, of Temple will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, at Grace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Thom Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery. LTC (Ret.) Burres died Friday in a Temple Hospital. LTC (Ret.) Burres was born December 16, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Stephen W. Burres, Sr., and Margaret Bartholomew Burres. He was an Eagle Scout and earned three palm leaves. He graduated from Purdue University on June 6, 1965, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and later obtained his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Texas College in 1978. LTC (Ret.) served in the United States Army from 1965-1985, first serving in the Field Artillery Division with two tours in Vietnam and later transferring to the Military Police Corps where he was the Deputy Provost Marshal of Fort Hood, Texas. His military medals include: The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numerals, two Vietnam Service Medals with four Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Sixty Device, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and General Staff College Course. He was a Mason, member of the Scottish Rite, the Shriners, Sheriff's Association of Texas, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Optomist International, Texas Tech Parents Association Board of Directors, and John Purdue Club. He was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and served Meals on Wheels for over ten years. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Burres of Temple; two sons, Stephen W. Burres, III, and wife Mendi of North Richland Hills, Brian Burres and wife Jamie of Fort Worth; two daughters, Pamela Zeigenhagen and husband Paul of Woodway, and Deborah Burres and fiancé John Briggs of Temple; his mother Margaret Burres of Indianapolis, Indiana, one brother Warren Kent Burres and one sister Margaret Ann May, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, and six grandchildren: Mikayla and Colton Burres, Brock and Cade Burres, and Alexis and Lauren Ziegenhagen.
