Lura was born on March 26, 1955, in Midland, Texas, to James Everett and Lola (McCoy) Mirike. She spent her life dedicated to education, faith, and service to others.
Lura lived in Burnet, Lewisville, Killeen, and Temple, Texas. She graduated from Lewisville High School and later attended Howard Payne University. She devoted more than 40 years to teaching, touching the lives of countless children as a beloved kindergarten and first-grade teacher in Temple and Killeen. She also served as an international elementary teacher, a role that reflected her love of learning, children, and cultural exchange. She retired after four decades in education.
A devoted Christian and member of the Baptist faith, Lura lived her beliefs through service. She volunteered extensively and served as a fundraiser for a local animal shelter, combining her compassion for others with her love for animals. Lura also enjoyed international travel, embracing new experiences and cultures throughout her life.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Mirike Thomas; her brother, James Martin Mirike; nieces Holly Jo Mirike and Tara Thomas; and nephew James Mirike.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Everett Mirike and Lola (McCoy) Mirike.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lura’s memory to the Bell County Animal Shelter.
