
Services for Madye Nottingham, age 94, of Temple will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday June 10, 2008 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with Rev. Theiss Jones officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas, Texas. Mrs. Nottingham died Friday June 6, 2008 at her Temple residence. Mrs. Nottingham was born in Sheridan on January 13, 1914, the daughter of Howard B. and Isabel Briscoe Spittler. She graduated from Giddings High School in 1933. She was a graduate of Cameron School of Nursing in 1938. She went to work for the Veterans Administration in 1938 and was a dispensary nurse at Bryan Airfield in Bryan, Texas from 1945 to 1946. She moved her nursing to the Veterans Hospital in Marlin and in 1960 to the Temple V.A. hospital retiring in 1978. She spent a total of 44 years in nursing. She married Ed Nottingham in 1952, he preceded her in death. Mrs. Nottingham was a member of the American League of Nursing, the Temple Federation of Women's Clubs, The Housekeepers Club as well a member of the American Business Women's Association. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Temple. While at First Baptist she was active in the Joy Singers, the Senior Baptist Choir of the church. Mrs. Nottingham was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and four brothers, Floyd Spittler, Orvil Spittler, Harvey Spittler and Joseph Spittler. She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Jean Hatfield of San Diego, California, three sons, Arnold Guy Hatfield of Ridgefield, Virginia, Howard Bascom Hatfield of Valencia, California and Earl Forrest Nottingham of Temple and three stepsons, Andrew Nottingham of Mart, John Richard Nottingham of Midway and Lonnie Roy Nottingham of Evant. Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Laverne Lovell of Caldwell and Jean Lois Whaley of Katy and four brothers, William R. Spittler of Austin, Lane Demont Spittler of Hallettsville, Loyd Daniel Spittler of Sheridan and Everett Ray Spittler of Cuero.
