Margaret C. "Peggy" Sawyer

Peggy was born in Youngstown, Ohio on October 23, 1924, where she lived until she married the love of her life, Ralph L. Sawyer, on January 6, 1945.  Ralph and Peggy moved to Temple in 1946 where they raised their three sons and were very active in service to First Baptist Church of Temple.  Peggy particularly enjoyed the infant nursery, Joy Singers and the LLL.  In the community, she served as PTA president, was active in the City Federation of Women’s Clubs, and was a volunteer at Peaceable Kingdom Retreat and Scott & White Child Life Program.

Peggy was employed by the City of Temple for 23 years as Executive Secretary to the Director of Personnel.  In 1981, she received the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding City Employee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, on September 7, 2003 and by her parents Janet and William E. O’ Donnell; two sisters, Jean E. Liana and Marian F. Vincent; and two brothers John A. O’Donnell and William E. O’Donnell, all of Ohio. 

Peggy is survived by her three sons; Richard Sawyer and wife Beverly of College Station, Tom Sawyer and wife Deb of Oro Valley, AZ and John Sawyer and wife Megan of Scottsdale, AZ; her grandchildren, Mark Sawyer and wife Elissa, Clay Sawyer, Katie Sawyer, Meg Sawyer and Blake Sawyer and wife Samantha, along with several nephews and nieces.

A memorial celebration will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 3:00pm at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Road in Temple.  Reverend Gary Anthony, Music Director at First Baptist Church in Temple will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00pm, Thursday, prior to the service.
