

Margaret C. Scanio, age 86, of Temple died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, April 24 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Ranjan Cletus as celebrant. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Thursday, April 23 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Scanio was born January 3, 1923 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Charles B. and Marguerite (McCormack) Caughlin. She moved to Temple in 1925 when her father became managing partner of Temple Coca Cola Bottling Company. She graduated from Temple High School in 1940 and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas where she was a Bluebonnet Belle. She married Vincent (Buddy) Scanio on February 6, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple where she was an active member for many years. She served on the Altar Society and was a Girl Scout leader. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Charles B. Caughlin, Jr. and one sister, Lillian Caughlin. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Vincent (Buddy) Scanio of Temple, her brother, James Caughlin and wife, Alicia of Irving, five children, Vincent Scanio and wife, Claudia of San Marcos, Michael Scanio and wife, Carmen of San Marcos, Sharon Scamardo and husband, Danny of Austin, Richard Scanio and wife, Manette of Corpus Christi and Philip Scanio and wife, Carol of Temple. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Sarah Cannon and husband, Tom of Montvale, New Jersey, Joe Scanio and John Scanio both of Austin, Gina Scanio, Francesca Scanio and Michael Scanio II all of San Marcos, Sam Scamardo and wife, Karen of Carrollton, Dorothy Christensen and husband, J. R. of Kingwood, Andrea Stegall and husband, Jake of Austin, Stacia Crafton and husband, Stefan, Justin Scanio and wife, Bobbie and Beth White and husband, Doug all of San Antonio, Leska Parker and husband, Blake of Longview and Tony Scanio and wife, Crystal of Fort Worth, seven great-grandchildren, Riley Cannon of Montvale, New Jersey, Tate Stegall of Austin, Rex Christensen of Kingwood, Hadley, Linden and Channing Crafton all of San Antonio and Chance Parker of Longview. Pallbearers are Joe Scanio, John Scanio, Michael Scanio, Sam Scamardo, Justin Scanio and Tony Scanio.
