

Margaret L. Sandlin Willson, age 93 of Temple, returned peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Saturday morning, September 8, 2018 with her family by her side. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 13th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Leslie Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.Mrs. Willson was born December 15, 1924 in Belton to John C. Sandlin and Martha Owens Sandlin. A lifelong resident of Bell County, Margaret graduated from Belton High School and soon after, she began working as a reception clerk at the old Scott and White Hospital. It was during this time she met her lifelong best friend and loyal husband, Paul Gorden Willson. They married on March 1, 1946 and were together for 72 years. During a conversation with them, they both would tell you how long they had been married.
When their daughter was born in August 1955, Margaret became a full time mother and housewife, supporting her daughter and her activities, Margaret became an excellent mother and wife. Margaret loved her family and always had many pictures of her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughters which she generously shared. She loved to grow food in her garden and canned most of what she raised. She could tell you how to preserve almost any fruit or vegetable.
Margaret loved being with family and friends and was always ready for a good hand of Dominoes. She loved her family and friends but mostly she loved her Lord. She regularly attended Troy United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Barton Sandlin, her sisters, Johnnie Miller, Martha Mae Martin, Merle Webb and Billie Bridges. Survivors include her husband, Paul Gorden Willson of Temple, a daughter, Paula Kay Willson Thrift of Temple, a granddaughter, Jill Ross and husband Tony of Troy, and two great granddaughters, Maggie and Jennie Ross of Troy, many nieces and nephews and cousins and one special grand dog, Rex who was her buddy.
The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, Texas or to The Temple Animal Shelter.
