

Marie Belson, age 96 of Temple, died Friday, March 15, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at St. Luke Catholic Church with Rev. John Guzaldo as celebrant. Private burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud. The family will receive visitors 5-7:00pm Tuesday, March 19, 2019 with recitation of the rosary at 6:30pm at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
Marie was born January 18, 1923 to John Pawlows who emigrated from Russia and Josephine Golebiesko Pawlows who emigrated from Poland. She was born and spent her early life in Albany, New York. After graduation from high school in Albany, Marie enlisted in the Navy to join her twin brother Eddie. She met Charles Belson and they were later married on September 7, 1945 when they were both stationed at the Naval Base in San Diego, California. She served in the Dental Corps as a Hospital Apprentice First Class V10 USNR for the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. Marie was most proud of her service in the military as a U.S. Navy Wave. The couple returned to Rosebud, Texas and raised their family. She was an involved mother of four serving as room mother at her children’s school, Camp Fire Leader and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Marie worked after her children graduated from high school as a physical therapy assistant at Torbett-Hutchings-Smith Hospital in Marlin, Texas. She was a volunteer with the Home Demonstration and March of Dimes. She was also active in the Veterans of Foreign War. She was an active member of St. Ann’s in Rosebud and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marlin. Marie later moved to Temple and was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Pam Bradley and husband, Steve of Austin and Tricia Meyer and husband, Leroy of Temple and two sons, Charles Belson and wife, Helen of Temple and Robert Belson and wife, Cissy of Clarksville, GA, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
