Known to all as Martha Jean, M.J., Mother and Ning-Ning, her special day of birth on 2/2/22 started a long, healthy and well-lived full life which lasted 92 years. The daughter of Edward and Leone Clayton in St. Joseph Missouri, Martha Jean awoke to each day with a beautiful smile and friendly voice to whomever she met, bringing joy, song and laughter. She never met a stranger and generously shared the wonderful wisdom of knowing right from wrong, proper manners, and being sensitive to never hurt another's feelings. At the young age of 20 she volunteered for her country during WWII at Rosecrans AF Base where she met the love of her life, Loyd Kenner Burleson. Together they settled in Texas where she brought into this world five beautiful daughters Joan, Jean, Jan, Joy and Jill. To Martha Jean heaven IS for real where she now spends eternity with her Savior, Loyd, Jan and someday all her family. She loved cruises to far-away lands traveling the world over, always with a zest for life and lived by the saying "I'd rather dance than eat". Active throughout her life in devotion to her beloved Christ Church Episcopal, never missing a Sunday service and as President of the Yellowbirds service organization for Scott and White Hospital. Ning-Ning was the "sweetest Grandmother ever" to Shelley, Shannon, Price, Loyd, Jason, Clayton, Kelsea, Kenner, Asher, Blake and Great Grandmother to Haley, Edward James, John, Addison, Elle, Bella, Loyd, Sophia, Max, Avery, Milo, Cinco, Hudson, Sydney, and little Tennison. Mother loved her birth home of St. Joseph Missouri where she shared her heart with her dear brother Jack Clayton's family, sister-in-law Suzie and their wonderful children Jackie, Julie and Jim and her adorable great niece and nephews, Mattie, Ben, Olivia, Jack and Reid. Preceded in death by her parents Edward and Leone Clayton, Patee and Jack Clayton, Loyd Burleson, and their daughter Jan, sons-in-law Mike Main and Marshall Bobbitt. Mother, you will forever be remembered and missed and we leave you with the same words you always shared with us, "love you, love you, love you." Funeral services are held at 2:00pm Saturday, December 27th, at Christ Church Episcopal, 300 N. Main, Temple Texas.
