Mary Joyce Gildon

Mary Joyce Gildon, age 84 of Temple, formerly of Portland, Texas, died Thursday, May 15, 2014 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Bellwood Memorial Park with Chaplain Steve Lane officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:30 - 7:30 PM Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Gildon was born on May 14, 1930 in Denton, Texas to the late John Carroll Stanley and Maude Augusta Allen Stanley. She graduated from North Texas State University with a degree in elementary education in 1951 and taught in Midland most of her career. Mrs. Gildon was a resident of Portland, Texas before moving to Temple in April of 2005. She married Charles Kenneth Gildon on June 23, 1951 in Fort Worth, Texas and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2006. Mrs. Gildon was a member of the First Baptist Church of Portland, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Carroll Stanley, Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Lorenz of Temple and Dana Kaminski and husband Todd of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, one great granddaughter and one great granddaughter on the way. Memorials may be given in Mrs. Gildon's name to the charity of choice.
