Mary Nell Hammer

Mary Nell Hammer, age 83 of Temple, died Monday, August 29, 2016 in a local care center.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 1st at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Milne officiating.  Burial will be at 2:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard with Rev. Jakie Shirley officiating.  Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.   Mrs. Hammer was born November 18, 1932 in Hubbard to Enoch C. and Maude Vaughan Wilson.  She was a graduate of Hubbard High School.  She married Glyn H. Hammer on June 12, 1954 in Hubbard.  They have been residents of Temple for the past 49 years.  She worked as a teller at Temple National Bank for several years and later as an assistant manager at the V. A. Hospital cafeteria.  After retirement she worked at the Information Desk at Scott & White Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.   She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, David Lynn Hammer.  Survivors include her husband, Glyn Hammer of Temple, one son, James Glyn Hammer and wife, Mary Kay of Denton, two grandchildren, Amanda Burkhart and husband, Jerry of Temple and David Hammer of Denton, two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Noah Burkhart of Temple.  Also surviving is one brother, Robert Wilson and wife, Lorraine of Wichita, Kansas.   Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
