Melton worked for many years at Carpenter Co. as a supervisor retiring in 1999. He then went to work for Scott and White Hospital and again retired after 10 years of service in their mail room. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Rosebud where he also served as the Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher, and a councilman. Melton literally helped build the current Salem Lutheran Church and he and his wife Katherine “Kathy” Reimer Russell were the first couple to marry in the church in 1963.
Melton was an avid Temple Wildcat fan, Dallas Cowboy fan, and Texas Longhorn fan, and loved his classic cars and pick-ups, though the greatest love of all was his wife Kathy.
He is survived by his daughters Rhonda Johns and husband Doug of Troy and Sheila Jones and husband Randy of Troy, grandchildren, Russell Johns and wife Alexis of Temple, Brandon Johns and wife Kayla of Dripping Springs, Lindsey Yates and husband Kyle of Hewitt, Megan Moon and husband Brandon of Temple, and Miranda Sedlacek and husband Cody of McKinney, and great-grandchildren, Riley and Finley Johns, Oliver and Myles Johns, Brantley and Bristol Moon, Adalynn and Ainsley Yates, and Beckham and Ellasyn Sedlacek.
Melton was preceded in death by his wife Kathy, his parents Raymond Russell and Katherine Brinkmeyer, step-father Alfred Brinkmeyer, and a brother John Earl Russell.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Melton's name to Salem Lutheran Church 418 FM 1772, Rosebud, Texas 76570 or to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) would be appreciated.
