Michael Daniel Murphy

Michael was a hardworking businessman whose friendly smile and dedication to serving others made him well known throughout the local community. As the former owner and operator of several local IHOP restaurants, he spent many years building lasting relationships with customers and employees alike. Following his retirement from the restaurant business, Michael continued to stay active, working for the Temple Daily Telegram, where he enjoyed remaining connected with the community he had come to love.

On December 6, 2006, Michael married Janet L. Gandy Steele. Together they shared many happy years until Janet's passing on June 18, 2019.

Michael is survived by his sister, Marion Lauretti of Belton, Texas; his brother, Sean Murphy of Melbourne, Florida; his mother-in-law, Mildred Gandy of Temple, Texas; his stepson, Bobby Steele and wife, Tracie, of Temple; his stepdaughter, Lacy Borgeson and husband, Chuck, of Rogers; his stepson, Steven Steele and wife, Miranda, of Belton; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Murphy; his sister, Cheryl Murphy; his parents, Daniel, and Mae Murphy; his brother-in-law, John Lauretti; his stepson, Willard Steele; his father-in-law, Willard Gandy; and his nephew, Scott Aubertin.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. Burial will take place at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
