

Mildred Cooper Smith, 82, of Temple, passed away Monday, August 24, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late James Henry and Lullie Estelle Moon Cooper, April 29, 1927, in Farmersville, Texas. Mildred grew up in Ponder, TX, raised her children in Dallas, TX, before moving to Temple, TX to be closer to her family. Known as "Mamaw" to her family, Mildred enjoyed sweets, crossword puzzles, traveling to the mountains, Italian food, playing dominoes, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids rotten. Her life was her family, so while she was never president of the local garden club or the Oak Ridge Boys fan club, in the end, she said that she loved her entire family, she knew that she was incredibly loved by her family, loved the Lord, knew that He loved her in return, and then took her dying breath with her husband of 64 years kissing her and saying "I love you baby", her definition of a life well lived on this earth. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, sister Elsie Cooper, and brothers Raymond Cooper, Charlie Ray Cooper, Troy Cooper, and Roy Cooper. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alfred Donley Smith of Temple. She is also survived by two children: Barbara Ann Thompson of Temple and Gary Don Smith (wife Brenda) of Temple, by three grandchildren: Josh Vincent (wife Dawn) of Alvarado, Nathan Smith of Houston, and Ryan Smith of Fort Worth, two great-grandchildren, Taylor Vincent and Halie Vincent of Alvarado, numerous adoring nieces and nephews, sister Thelma Jean Anthony of Houston, TX, and brother Cecil(Dink)Cooper of Dallas, TX. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Temple building fund. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday August 28, 2009 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Road; Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 29, 2009 at First United Methodist Church - Temple, 102 N 2nd St with Rev. Tom Robbins and Jane Woodward officiating. Burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park, 8575 Airport Rd.
