A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke’s Catholic Church 2807 Oakdale Dr. Temple, Texas 76502. Minda was born as Luzviminda Benemerito Magalong on July 13th 1951 to Juan Magalong, a merchant, and Elisea Benemerito Magalong, a modiste, in the Juan Luna subdivision of Manila, Philippines. She was the oldest child of five siblings, where her precocious nature became apparent in the way she looked after her younger brothers and sisters. She graduated from Arellano High School in 1968 and attended the University of the City of Manila, where she received a Bachelor of Science and certification in Nursing in 1973. She then met and married Dominador Agtarap, an Army infantryman, on July 8th, 1980 in Manila. They would spend the next ten years living around the world, including Ft. Ord in California, Saudi Arabia, Weisbaden in Germany, and finally to Ft. Hood, TX in 1987, where she began working as a nurse at Scott & White Memorial Hospital. Minda would move permanently to Temple in 1994 to continue her career while simultaneously caring for her mother and raising her three children. While at S&W, she served in multiple roles as a nurse case manager in social work, discharge planning, observation, and utilization review. She was the Nurse Case Manager of the Year in 2004 and served more than 30 years with the Scott & White family. Minda found the most joy in providing for her family as well as her friends she maintained across the world. She is remembered for her conviction, her sophistication and her indomitable strength, most especially through her battles with cancer. She was a devout member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and was very active in the Filipino-American Associations across Central Texas, ultimately helping to establishing a society in Temple that remains active today. She was also active with her high school and nursing classes in Manila; this month would have been her 50th reunion trip. She is preceded in death by her younger brother George. She is survived by her three children, sons Phillip and Demy Jonathan (DJ), and daughter Stephanie. She is also survived by her three younger siblings: sisters Mary Catherine and Mary Josephine, youngest brother John-Ken, and her mother of 90 years, all residing abroad. In lieu of flowers memorial to St. Luke's Catholic Church or to Scott and White Vasicek Cancer Treatment Center would be appreciated.
