A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone. A private burial will be held at Seaton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, with the Rosary beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Norma was born August 16, 1943, in Seaton, Texas, to William J. and Henrietta (Cabla) Matous. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1961. She continued her education throughout her career, completing Home Office Underwriting in the spring of 1975 and receiving a certificate of completion from Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business in February 1979. Norma was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone.
For almost 25 years, Norma worked at SPJST, where she served as administrative assistant to the vice president, insurance underwriter, and sales representative. After her marriage to Donald Fred “Don” Alford, she continued office work in various businesses ranging from manufacturing to real estate. Her working career spanned 50 years, from high school until the age of 70.
Norma loved to travel, garden, dance, listen to music, and decorate interiors. In her later years, her grandchildren became her primary focus. She also enjoyed watching Hallmark Channel movies, keeping up with current events, and pets—although she would never admit it.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Henrietta “Babe” Everett and husband Harley, Bill Matous and wife Joyce, Ed Matous and wife Beatrice, Frank Matous and wife Bernice, Ladis Matous and wife LeraMae, Helen Sandefur, and her twin brother, Wilbur “Gene” Matous.
She is survived by her husband, Don Alford; her children, Kelli and Jeb Raabe of Rosebud, Keith and Stacy Andel of Temple, and Debi and Bob Stever of San Antonio; grandchildren, Sara Janak and husband Travis of Rockport, Kate Rossi and husband Nick of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Matthew Jahns and wife Cheyenne of Rosebud, Dustin Andel of Irving, Rachel Lawhon and husband Ryan of Hockley, Courtney Prado and husband Luke of Temple, and Gordon Stever of San Antonio; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Although Norma loved growing ivies and geraniums, she would prefer memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to Seaton School, Seaton Cemetery, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, or a charity of one’s choice.
