
Phyllis E. (Tombaugh) Nichols passed away December 8, 2018, having reached the age of 91. A memorial service will he held Sat., Dec. 15, 11:00 a.m., at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Rd., Temple, TX. Phyllis was born on January 9, 1927 in Houston, Texas, to Clive and Myrtle (Dickerman) Tombaugh. Phyllis married Clyde Nichols on June 28, 1945. Phyllis was a member of First Christian Church in Temple and active for many years. She chartered the Children’s Care of Texas, Inc. in 1986 and directed it until 2009. Phyllis was an avid Bridge player, started the Rolling Hills Bridge Club in 1983, and taught duplicate Bridge in various venues in Temple. She continued to play Bridge until her very last days, and her Bridge partners were also cherished friends. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by: two brothers: Donald Tombaugh and wife Jean of Lampasas, and Charles Tombaugh and wife Karen, of Wichita, Kansas, four children: Patricia Nichols and partner Jim Rosebery, Gregory Nichols and wife Denise, Randy Nichols, and Lori Russell, eleven grandchildren: April, Matt, Mike, Ryan, DeWayne, Candice, Summer, Isaac, Yuri, Jessie, Shawnee, and eighteen great grandchildren.
