
Funeral services for Rev. Luther A. Dillard, 82, of LaGrange, formerly of Little River, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday Sept. 18, 2006 at Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. Sunday at Scanio Harper Funeral Home. Rev. Dillard died Friday in a LaGrange Hospital. Rev. Dillard was born in Pernell, Oklahoma to Clarence Dillard and Rosa Ann Horn Dillard. He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II, as an armed guard and a radio operator. He was a graduate of Howard Payne College in Brownwood and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He became an ordained minister in May, 1948. From 1946 to 2000 he pastored churches in Cedar Creek, Granger, Somerville, Lufkin, Tomball, Beaumont, Taylors Valley Baptist Church in Temple and County Line Baptist Church in the Joe Lee Community. During the 1950's Rev. Dillard was a school teacher, bus driver, principal, High School coach and Little League coach. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Baptist Association. He married Faye Gunn. Survivors include his wife Faye Gunn Dillard of LaGrange, daughter and son in law Lyle and Linda Craighton of LaGrange, son and daughter in law Dan and Ileene Dillard of Columbus daughter and son in law, Mark and Judy Campbell of Houston, son and daughter in law, Joel and Beverly Dillard of Beaumont, one sister Lois Lisenbe, nephew and wife, Darrell and Brenda Lisenbe of Little River Academy, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
