

Rev. Lyle Pierce, age 89, passed away February 20, 2018. Public Celebrations of Life for Rev. Lyle Lee Pierce will be held at Stoney Brook Assisted Living, 500 River Fair Blvd, Belton, Texas on Thursday, March 1 at 3pm and at Universal City United Methodist Church, 90 Winn Ave, Universal City, TX on March 2, at 10am. Interment will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas at a later date. Rev. Lyle Lee Pierce was born to Asa and Alice Pierce on October 4, 1928 in Illinois. He graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Southern Methodist University School of Theology and became an ordained minister of the Methodist Church in 1974. Rev. Pierce served in the Army during World War II, was an engineer for City Public Service in San Antonio, retiring after 25 years of service to follow his calling to serve Christ. He served Texas Methodist churches in Cotulla, Robert Lee, Weimar, Oak Island, and Universal City. He served as Director of Randolph Area Christian Assistance Program. He also worked as an engineer at Alexander Utility Engineering in San Antonio. After retirement he worked at Shertz and Scanio-Harper Funeral Homes. He also proudly served as a bus driver for Robert Lee and Weimar School Districts and Band Chaplain for Robert Lee High School Band, positively impacting the lives of many children. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s late in life, he spent the last 6 years building extraordinary dollhouses and lighthouses to maintain his fine motor skills. Donating those dollhouses to Ronald McDonald House, Auctions for Women & Children in Crisis, Stoney Brook Assisted Living Center Residents Fund and Belton Senior Center. He also built dollhouses for his granddaughter, great-granddaughter, daughters and daughters-in-law. He always said “in addition to giving something up for lent to add something positive in your life.” In honor of our father we request that you go out and do something special for someone. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Vickie Pierce, his wife of 49 years, Ollie Mae Pierce, brothers Richard Pierce and wife Marion, and Roger Pierce. He is survived by five children; sons, Robert Taylor and wife, Valerie Dalton of McKinney, Texas; Max Taylor and wife, Debbie of Spring, Texas; Roger Pierce of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Catherine Brown and husband, Willie of Aurora, Colorado; Barbara Hoffmann and husband, Charles of Temple, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Taylor, Nathan Taylor, James Taylor, Mark Taylor, Eric Dalton-Taylor and Amanda Bynum; great-grandchildren, Taivion Taylor & Lacey Taylor; sister-in-law Nancy Pierce, and numerous nieces and nephews.
