Robert was born in Yoakum, Texas, to Mary and William Robert Hill on November 28, 1930. He was married December 24, 1948, to Carolyn Marie Cowey. In the 1950’s, Robert worked for the General Telephone Company (GT) managing a line crew. During his time with GT, he worked at the construction site of the Falcon Dam along the Texas southern border helping establish communications to the dam.
Robert was ordained into the ministry by the Assemblies of God (A/G), June 23, 1960. Leaving his career at the telephone company, Robert became full-time in the ministry. This decision would last for over 50 years. He pastored several churches across Texas, including 27 years in Moody, Texas. During this time, his wife of 34 years passed away. While in Moody, Robert served several years on the Presbyter Board of the A/G Waco section. He was also active in his community serving on the Moody ISD School Board and participated in community church revivals and functions. After retiring from his long-term pastorate in Moody, Robert was once again called to serve as pastor of the A/G church in Troy, Texas, where he served 12 additional years with his wife, Ruth Turner (married in 1983). Throughout his years of pastoring, he helped build several new church buildings in Aransas Pass, Moody, and Troy. After his retirement from the full-time ministry, he continued to serve as needed through various ministry needs as requested.
Rev. R. A. Hill, “Pastor” as many called him, was known for his compassionate heart, being the hands and feet of Jesus. One of Robert’s loves was playing his guitar or steel guitar during worship services. His love for God was evident through his faithful ministry of sharing the good news over the years. Along with his ministry, Robert enjoyed the outdoors spending time fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by family and friends who knew him and loved him.
