
Robert James (Bob) Bane of Troy passed away on April 2, 2010. Bob was born March 7, 1921 in Buda, Texas to Jim Jackson Bane and Nola Anna Gilley Bane. He grew up in the Buda and Waco areas before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in San Diego and serving on the U.S.S. Polana in the Pacific. During the War, he married Waco native Lelia Louise Nehring and they gave birth to their first child, Nona Marie. After the War, Bob, Lelia and Nona returned to Texas and he began a long career with HEB Grocery Co. as Market Manager. Their son, Robert Douglas Bane was born in Waco in 1954. In 1959, HEB transferred Bob to Temple where he helped open the new HEB store on Adams Ave. Following his long years with HEB, he retired to open his own meat market in Troy, Texas where he served his many friends and customers for another decade. Bob was a dedicated husband and father who always had time to help those in need. In later years he in turn was blessed by the kindness of many friends and neighbors. Bob is survived by Lelia, his loving wife of 66 years, a daughter, Nona Bane Cole of Troy; a son, Robert Douglas Bane of Temple; and three grandchildren, Michael Leigh Turner of Austin, Lauren Elizabeth Bane of Boston, MA. and Leahann Cristen Bane of Tucson, AZ. Services will be held at St. John United Church of Christ in Robinson, Texas at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010 with Rev. Toni Kracke officiating. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ, 100 S. Robinson Dr., Robinson, Texas 76706.
