Bob was born on December 6, 1943, in Chanute, Kansas, to Robert Leo and Mary Kay Hogan. Though his early years were marked by loss—his father was killed in World War II when Bob was just an infant—he was raised in a loving family in small-town Kansas, eventually becoming the adopted son of Bob Murphy and growing up alongside his sisters.
He graduated from Regis College in Denver, Colorado, and earned his master’s degree in mathematics from Wichita State University. Bob began his career at IBM, where he served in various roles for more than three decades, including an overseas assignment in Sydney, Australia, before retiring in 1999. He turned down multiple promotions in order to keep his family rooted and close-knit, something that defined the rest of his life.
A man of deep Catholic faith, Bob was a longtime member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cedar Park and most recently of St. Luke Catholic Church in Temple. He served proudly as a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, including as Grand Knight of Council #7600. His life of service extended beyond his parish into everything he did—with his family, his friends, and his community.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patty; and their four children: Christy McNaughton and husband Paul of Austin, Billy Hogan of Round Rock, Bridget Clark and husband Rob of Rogers, Arkansas, and Erin Willert and husband Andy of Round Rock. Known as “Bopo” to his grandchildren, Bob’s legacy continues through Deacon Brian McNaughton, Johnny McNaughton and wife Caroline, Megan McNaughton, Owen Clark, Kennedy Hogan, Allie McNaughton, Connor Hogan, Zoe Willert, Kenzie Clark, and Zac Willert. He was joyfully awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Felicity McNaughton.
He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Kay Bright of Madison, Wisconsin, and Patricia Sheets and husband Bob of Aurora, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Leo Hogan and Mary Kay and Bob Murphy, and his sister Jean Ann Schneider.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Temple. Committal will follow at St. Luke Columbarium.
Bob will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his joyful spirit, and his deep love for his family. His laugh, his stories, and his example of steadfast love will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the St. Luke stained glass restoration project would be appreciated.
