Roger E. Boyd

Lt. Col. (USAF, Ret.) Roger E. Boyd Roger Boyd, age 85 of Temple, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at his residence. A memorial service, with full military honors, will be held at 4:00 PM, Friday, February 24, 2012 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Chaplain Ralph McCulloh officiating. Roger was born on February 6, 1927, the eldest son of a coal miner, in the hills of Lawrence, Ohio to the late Earl Boyd and Katherine Valance Boyd. He married Eleanor "Becky" Klopp on October 20, 1951. Roger received a B.S. in Naval Science Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, M.S. in Nuclear Physics from Ohio State University and a M.S. in Computer Science from American Technical University. Roger served in the U.S. Army early in his military career, in the U.S. Navy as a student in the Naval Academy and served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force. He also worked 10 years for Boeing Aerospace. Roger ended his military career as a civil servant with top defense security clearance at Fort Hood in 1990. Upon retirement, he owned and operated Stagecoach Properties in Temple, Texas. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Becky Boyd of Temple; daughters, Sheryl Boyd and Becky Hubik and husband Tom, all of Austin, TX; a son, Phillip Boyd and wife Susan of The Colony, TX; two brothers, Keith Boyd of South Point, OH and Steven Boyd of Yellow Springs, OH; two sisters, Arletta Brown and Judi Kautz, both of Springfield, OH; grandchildren, Nicole Hubik and Caitlin Hubik, both of Austin, TX, Srgt. Roger Boyd, artillery section chief, and Ryan Boyd, both of The Colony, TX; and one great grandchild, Kambry Boyd; The family would like to thank Veronica Boyd Drake for the devoted, loving care given to Mr. Boyd over the last three years.
