Rose Mary Mayes

Rose Mary Patricia Mayes, 79, of Van Buren, IN, formerly of Temple, went home to be with her Lord & Savior on Thursday, March 24, 2016.   Rose was born on March 29, 1936 to Henry and Lucille Michaelson in Queens, New York.  At age 17, she moved to Texas, was married shortly after and started a family of 9 that was raised primarily in Rogers.  She worked at Scott & White for 17 years and later worked at JC Penny’s for over 20 years, where she retired at the age of 76.    More than anything, Rose loved her family and spending time with them and her bold personality brought much joy and laughter to us all.  She was sweet and loving, but held nothing back when it came to offering her opinion and advice.  She was an avid sports fan that supported and cheered on her children and grandchildren.  She loved her Rogers Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Cubs and WWE wrestling.      Rose was a devout Christian that loved the Lord, reading her Bible and going to church.  She attended and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Rogers for over 30 years.  She later transferred her membership to First Christian Church of Temple.   Rose was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bobby Michaelson; sister, Tessie Walker; two step-sons, Wayne and Johnny Mayes; three great grandchildren, Brookelynn and Jazmen Dick and April Morgan.   Rose is survived by her nine children; Linda Morgan of Temple; Robert (Lisa) Mayes of China Spring; Laurie (James) Yeager of Van Buren, IN; Danny Mayes of Rogers; Michael (Jana) Mayes of Bluffton, IN; Hank Mayes of Temple; Joseph (Karen) Mayes of Buckeye, AZ; Brenda (Kristy) Whitcomb of Harker Heights and Thomas (Chelsea) Mayes of Belton; 37 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren; brothers, Sonny Michaelson of New York and Richie Michaelson of California and sister, Veronica Mercer.   Services will be 10:00am Thursday, March 31 at First Christian Church, 300 N. 5th Street, Temple and led by Reverend Billy Crow and Dr. Don Lynn.   Visitation will be 6-8:00pm Wednesday, March 30 at Scanio Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Road, Temple.
