

Roy Willis Gill, age 80, of Troy, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 in Temple. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 21st at First Baptist Church in Troy with Mike McMurtry and Rev. Harlan Haines officiating. Burial will follow at Roberts Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Gill was born August 10, 1935 in Oglesby to Lewis Jeff Gill and Lena Lenora Meacham Gill. He was raised and graduated school in Oglesby. He was attending Baylor University when he met the love of his life, Martha Louise Harris while flying a kite. They were married on April 20, 1956. He passed three days prior to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Roy was involved in the banking business until the early 1980’s when he found interest in the car business. He spent several years in used car sales before purchasing Bartlett Ford and Rockdale Ford/Mercury. While successfully operating his car business, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, spending time on the golf course with friends and his son and working outside in his yard and shop. Throughout the years, Roy was an active member of several organizations including the Temple Jaycee’s and The Lions Club. He served on the Troy City Council, Troy School Board and the Board of Directors for the First National Bank of Rockdale. After retirement, he enjoyed driving the school bus for Troy ISD. Roy and Martha were members of First Baptist Church of Troy. He was preceded in death by both parents Lewis Jeff Gill and Lena Meacham Gill; brothers, Matt Bunk Gill and Delbert Lewis Gill. Survivors include his wife, Martha; a daughter, Vickie King and husband, Larry of Waco; son, Steve Gill and wife Kim, of Richardson; sister, Doretha Speer and husband, Ralph of Gatesville; sister-in-law, Alicia Gill of Victoria; four grandchildren, Michael and wife Leigh, Mitchell and wife Megan, Miranda and husband Jimmy, and Gracie Gill; 11 great-grandchildren Haegen, Lana, Madelyn, Mckenzie, Mollie, Jayse, Hudson, Hayzen (expected in May), Matthew, Emily, Jay and many other extended family members and friends.
