

Sarah Elizabeth Shelton, age 97, of Temple died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 20 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Q. Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Methodist Church Cemetery in Milam County. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Shelton was born on September 17, 1913 in the Friendship community in Milam County to Edward Graham and Annie Fay (Talbert) Looney. She was a graduate of Yoe High School in Cameron and Southwest Texas State University receiving her B.S. and M.A. degrees. She taught school for 43 years in Bell and Milam counties. She married Everett Shelton on June 2, 1934 in Buckholts and was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church, the Temple & Bell County Retired Teachers Association and the Betty Martin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1963 and her sister, Dora Faye Tabor in 1997. Survivors include her sister's children; Michael Tabor and family in Dallas and Ann McQuerrey and family in San Angelo. Both sisters were recipients in 1970 of scholarships to the J. Edgar Hoover Institute in Valley Forge, PA for their teaching of American Heritage in their respective schools. Mrs. Shelton served as pianist for Friendship United Methodist Church at their 9:00 AM service and the 11:00 AM service at Val Verde Baptist Church for many years. She is beloved by her family, former students, church and community friends and the staff and residents at Garden Estates. Memorial donations may be made to Come & See Ministries, P. O.
