A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Shirley was born on November 20, 1949, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to D.W. and Verna Belle Wood. She was raised in East Texas and later made her home in the Moffat and Temple areas. On July 12, 1969, she married Tommy “Tucker” Green, in Belton, Texas. Together they shared nearly 57 years of marriage.
A member of Moffat Baptist Church, Shirley was known for her servant’s heart, strong work ethic, and devotion to her family and community. She retired from McLane Company in October 2024 due to illness. She loved her job and considered her coworkers part of her extended family.
Shirley enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning, and bird watching. She was especially known for preparing treats for her coworkers and for always taking care of those around her. In previous years, she generously volunteered her time as a board member for Lakeaire HOA and with the Moffat Volunteer Fire Department. Above all, she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Jerry Wood and Frankie Wood.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Green of Moffat; daughter, Lafonda Brown and husband Darrell Brown of Moffat; sisters, Mary Kirkham of Belton, Cathy Luther of Temple, and Patsy Linker of Sulphur Springs; brothers, William Wood of Temple and Kenny Wood of Moffat; and grandson, Hunter Wilsey and fiancée Laken Easton of Moffat.
Memorial donations may be made to the Moffat Cemetery Association in Shirley’s memory.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to AccentCare Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to Shirley and her loved ones.
Shirley’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
