Sophia Knight Stockton Cox

Sophia Knight Stockton Cox, age 87, of Temple died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in Temple. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 15 at First Baptist Church in Temple with Dr. Martin Knox officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 - 6:00 PM Thursday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Cox was born on April 10, 1922 in Temple to Andrew W. and Emily (Knight) Stockton. She graduated from Temple High School in 1939 and Texas Women's University in 1942 with a bachelor's of arts degree. She married Charles H. Cox, Jr. on September 6, 1942. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Temple from 1945 where she was a member of the choir and cared for the babies in the nursery for many, many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Euclid Stephens and Mary Belle Rutherford. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Charles H. Cox, Jr., one son, Dr. Charles H. (Chuck) Cox, III and wife, Kathy of Tyler, four daughters, Rebekah Matthews and husband, Wade, Emily McBurney and husband, Robert and Andrea Marshall all of Temple and Melissa Pulley and husband, Nickey of Athens, 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Temple or Lighthouse Hospice. Pallbearers will be grandsons; Paul Cox, Samuel Bonney, Bart McBurney, John McBurney, Preston Pulley, Caleb Pulley and Andrew Pulley.
