
OBITUARY THOMAS B. POPEJOY Mr. Thomas B. Popejoy, 90 of Temple died November 19, 2007 at his Temple residence. A celebration of Tom's life and a luncheon will be held at Christ Episcopal Church Wednesday November 28, 2007 at 11:00 AM with The Rev. David Alwine officiating. Tom was born June 10, 1917 in Groesbeck, Texas the son of Will and Viola Cleaver Popejoy. He graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and came to live in Temple after the war. Tom was a longtime active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Temple serving as lay reader and singing in the church choir. He owned Dixie Furniture for many years with his friends and business partners, D.L. and Virginia Russell. Later, he worked as Assistant Manager of the Temple Chamber of Commerce. He then headed the" Motor Inn Journal" as the advertising manager. In 1980 when the magazine sold, he put his talents to work at Gresham's Printing and Office Supplies store. For years, he was a contributing member of the Temple Lions Club. He was especially prominent in helping set up and fund the Temple Lions Club Crippled Children's Foundation. He was very active with the Cultural Activities Center since its inception. He also served as a set designer and painter, as needed, for the Temple Civic Theatre. Tom was an artist and used his artistic talents whenever and where ever they were needed. Whether it be painting sets for the theater or making signs for multiple events at the C.A.C. or Lions Club, he loved putting his talents to use. Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years Elizabeth Popejoy of Temple and one daughter Paula Popejoy Parven of Austin: and his granddaughter, Sara Parven of Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Tom may be made to the Cultural Activities Center 3011 North 3rd Street Temple, Texas 76501 or Christ Episcopal Church 300 North Main Street Temple, Texas 76501 or the charity of the donor's choice. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
