

Virginia Melnot Stewart Creech died in Temple at age 94 March 2, 2012 after a long illness. Mrs. Creech was born July 21, 1917 in St. Louis, Missouri to Bessie Mae Parrish Stewart and Colento Melnot Stewart, she had lived in Temple for most of her life. She married Donald Woodrow Creech in Clarksville, MO on January 29, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1991. Virginia was a designer and decorator for Creech and Rodenbeck Real Estate and Development in Temple from 1958 until her retirement in 1974. She was a charter member of the Jordan Bass Chapter, U.S.D. 1812 and had served as chapter officer. She is a former member of the Betty Martin Chapter DAR. She was known for her creativity, and was a published author of short stories and poems. She often wrote about her family members and those poems and stories are possessions prized by her descendants. She also enjoyed sharing her hand made greeting cards with her friends and family. Virginia is survived by her children, Wanda and Dr. Jack Weinblatt of Temple, Don and Mona Creech of Boerne and Bob and Jane Creech of Arlington; grandchildren, Jon and Gayle Farrow of Temple, Liza and Dr. Alan Farrow-Gillespie of Dallas, Caren and Jaime Berlanga of San Antonio, Carl Creech of Austin, Melinda Creech of Arlington, Dr. Melanie and Glenn Barron of Fort Worth, Jason Creech of Abilene and Dr. Lara and Dr. Mark Wakefield of Columbia, MO. She leaves great-grandchildren, Stephanie and DaSean Durham, Jonathan Farrow, Maria and James Wakefield and Emily and Peyton Barron. One son, James Ray Creech and one grandson, Charley Creech, preceded her in death. Other survivors are brothers, Ed Stewart of Seattle, WA, Colento Stewart Jr. of Champaign, IL and sisters, Arrahwanna Gallagher and Ruth Ann Heiser of Illinois and Dolores McDonnell of Fort Bragg, CA. Visitation will be at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple on Wednesday, March 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be private.
