

W. Howard Wright, age 92 of Temple, died Friday, November 29, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Chaplain Margaret Clemings officiating. Private burial will be at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6-7:00PM Monday, December 2, 2013 at the funeral home. Mr. Wright was born on July 19, 1921 in Many, Louisiana to the late William Howard Wright and Audrey McCollister Wright. He graduated from Waco High School in 1940. Howard also attended Baylor University and the Chicago School of Business. He married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Jane Bledsoe in 1941 in Waco and she preceded him in death in 1992. He has lived in Temple since 1942. In 1952 he opened W. Howard Wright Real Estate. He was a Real Estate Broker and Entrepreneur. Howard was very active in real estate in the Temple area and was past president of the Temple Chamber of Commerce, Temple Industrial Foundation, Temple Country Club and the Temple/Belton Board of Realtors. Howard was involved in subdividing the first five sections of Western Hills, and also Rolling Hills and Terrace Gardens in Temple, Pecan Creek in Troy, Ridgewood Estates in Taylors Valley and Linda Ventura in Salado. He was also a homebuilder in Temple. Howard was an avid golfer and was known on the golf course as "Hawk". In 2001, Howard married Jo Ann Davis. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Temple. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Dorothy Wright and his beloved daughter, Beverly Ann Hallquist. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Wright of Temple; a son, Larry Wright and wife Margaret of Temple; a step son, Troy Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah; a step daughter, Shannon Davis of Carrollton; grandchildren, Shannon Mayes and husband Scott of Flower Mound, Wendy Wright of San Antonio and Jennifer Stringfellow and husband Mac of Georgetown; four great grandchildren, Justin and Allison Mayes and Isaac and Benjamin Stringfellow, and son-in-law, Michael Hallquist of Waxahachie. The family wishes to thank Tony Jeter and his Tender Mercies staff, especially Howard's primary caregiver, Asha, for their loving care and support during his final months. Thanks also to Odyssey Hospice for their expertise and support and to Angie Watts, long-time friend and caregiver, for her love and devotion to Howard.
