

Wanda Nell Fletcher Pyeatt, age 76 of Temple, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 17, 2012 following a long extended battle with cancer. Wanda was born to Truman Fletcher and Oneta Baize Fletcher in China Spring, Texas on May 5, 1936. She attended school in Temple and graduated from the Waco School of Cosmetology. She worked as a hairdresser until the birth of her children. Wanda married Tommy Pyeatt on August 14, 1954 in Temple at the Memorial Baptist Church. Wanda and Tommy lived in Santa Monica, CA, Austin and Houston. In 1967 Wanda and Tommy moved to Lake Jackson where Tommy was employed by Brazosport Schools. She was involved with her local community where she was active in sports programs with her children as well as other civic activities. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and NUMU. In 1980 she began working for Congressman Ron Paul's Foundation for Rational Economics and Education. Wanda was baptized at the Southwest Christian Church in Austin by the evangelist Dr. Bob Cox. She and Tommy retired in 1989 and moved to back to Temple. Wanda was an accomplished vocalist and song writer. She was a self taught guitarist. She sang with her brothers and sisters from childhood until her illness prevented her from doing so. Music was an important part of her life and she imparted this love and talent to her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She leaves us with beautiful memories and the example of love in action. She will be missed by all and remembered by those who knew her with love. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Barbara Fletcher Ledger and one brother, Terry Fletcher. Wanda is survived by her husband, Tommy Pyeatt of Temple, her children, Tom Pyeatt and wife Lori, Rhonda West and husband Dana, of Lake Jackson and Rodney and Jeffrey Pyeatt of Waco, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Kenneth Fletcher and wife, Johnnie of New Braunfels, Bill Fletcher and wife, Joyce of Bastrop, Dale Fletcher and wife, Georgie of Temple, two sisters, Linda Fletcher Ramage and husband, Johnny of Temple and Judy Fletcher Taylor and husband, Bobby of Moody and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, June 21 at 1:00 PM at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with James Marvin Baize officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 20, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to the Texas Children's Hospital in Houston or Scott & White Hospice.
