Wayne Sterling Aregood, 71 of Temple TX, peacefully passed away the morning of Thursday August 11th, 2022. He was the second child born to William and Sonja Aregood on January 7, 1951 in Hartford, Connecticut.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Donna Aregood; his children, Courtney Guehler, Samuel Aregood, and Lane Aregood; his son-in-law, Jason Guehler, grandson Nolan Guehler, and soon-to-be born grandson Hunter Guehler; his brother, Wesley Aregood; his sister, Wendy Aregood; and his nephew, Chris Aregood. He is preceded in death by his father, William Aregood; his mother, Sonja Tucker Aregood; and his eldest brother Billy Aregood.
Wayne graduated high school and moved out on his own at the young age of 17 years old. He was a man of many talents and wore many hats. Wayne perfected everything he set his mind to. He was an adventurous outdoors man in his younger years from hiking and fishing to hunting elk and moose. After the nature adventures came to an end, Wayne enjoyed spending time at various shooting ranges. He was excellent with his hands being a natural-born carpenter and mechanic. Wayne built many vehicles over his years from the ground up and owned his own auto shop for a time.
Wayne was a very influential person within the nuclear power industry in the United States. He worked all over the country, as well as overseas in Saudi Arabia. He started out in the Quality Control department, where he would meet his wife Donna, and quickly worked his way up to a very well respected and admired Fire Protection Engineer. Wayne did not have a college degree, but you wouldn’t know because of his never-ending intelligence, passion, and dedication for his work. Wayne was never afraid to face a situation head on, having worked hand-in-hand with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on a regular basis. And because of this, it’s been shared with us that dad and his work were instrumental in the successful construction of the URENCO USA facility in Eunice NM.
Wayne loved working with his hands. He was never satisfied with sitting still and always kept busy with his various hobbies. He always provided for his family, even when that meant he had to travel and be away from us for long periods of time. Wayne was a good man with an honest heart, a great father and husband, and an amazing Pops to his grandson.
Wayne kept his humor about him up until the end, always wanting to bring a smile or laugh to those around him. We ask his many acquaintances and friends to share fond memories of him with us by leaving an entry on the Dignity Memorial webpage for dad.
Because of dad’s respect and admiration for those that give service to their community, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Moffat Volunteer Fire Department, 5660 Lakeaire Blvd, Temple, TX 76502.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
