Willard Gandy, affectionately known as Pappy, passed away peacefully at home in Temple, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
Willard was born on December 3, 1930, in Buckholtz, Texas, and later married his beloved bride Mildred Vybiral, September 27, 1952, where they began building a life together. Willard leaves behind a legacy of devoted community service to Central Texas. Renowned for his exceptional barbering skills and captivating presence as a bassist in various bands, Willard was a beacon of dedication to both family and friends. Exemplifying peace and offering comfort during uncertain times, he served as a guiding light for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a respected barber in downtown Temple for over 65 years, he earned the admiration of many, not only for his craft but also for the kindness he extended to each patron. He proudly served as a veteran of the Korean War and was a faithful member of a local Lutheran Church. His life was characterized by compassion, love, and unwavering faith in Christ.
Willard found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially a good game of checkers, playing country & western music and spending time with family and friends; he never met a stranger. In recognition of his contributions, the City of Temple Council declared December 3, 2010, "Willard Gandy Day."
