Allan R. Lawyer

February 7, 1942, Allan’s life was marked by a tireless work ethic and a deep sense of pride in

his craft. To all who knew him, he was a man of quiet strength and unwavering resolve.

After attending East Rutherford High School, Allan served his country honorably in the United

States Navy, spending several years on submarines. Following his military service, he began

what would become a lifetime of admirable hard work with the International Union of Operating

Engineers (IUOE) Local 15 in New York City. Allan contributed to a number of prominent

projects, operating and maintaining heavy equipment like bulldozers, excavators, and cranes for

the construction of highways, bridges, tunnels, and skyscrapers. He was dedicated to his trade,

also working as a mechanic, welder, and electrician. Allan proudly and patriotically contributed

to the World Trade Center clean-up efforts after the attacks on September 11, 2001.

Allan was a man who could build or repair anything. This talent was most evident at the beach

cottage in Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts, which he lovingly rebuilt and where he created a

lifetime of cherished memories with and for his family and friends. After his retirement, he and

his wife, Candy, settled into a fun and friendly retirement community near the Jersey Shore.

Allan is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Candace (nee Fastook); his son Preston

Lawyer and wife Mary; his daughter Amy Sutton and husband Thom; his eldest brother Frank

Lawyer; his brother-in-law Steve Fastook; and many nieces and nephews. He was the

grandfather of seven grandchildren: Thomas, Olivia, Maggie, Stella, Kelsey, Clara, and Maeve.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; his father, Frank; and his siblings, Ethel

Turkington, Ted Lawyer, Charlie Lawyer, Lydia, and David.

A graveside ceremony will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Laurel Grove

Cemetery in Totowa, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made
