Americo Velasquez, 90, returned to the Lord on September 18, 2026. Born on May 29, 1936, in Lima, Peru, Americo was the son of the late Pedro and Rosalia. Americo was deeply beloved by his family and was a committed husband, father, and grandfather.
After serving in the Peruvian Navy, Americo immigrated to the U.S. in 1963 seeking work and opportunity. He worked in a Textile Mill for Baltic Dyeing, Passaic for over thirty years, bringing to his work the kind of reliability and diligence that earns quiet respect over time.
That same steadiness was evident in his marriage to the love of his life, Ana Hilda (Lopez). The two were introduced while dancing, and they continued as each other’s dance partners for a steady 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Ana Hilda; their two sons, Steven and his wife Jennifer, and Robert; and his granddaughters. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Velasquez, in 2019.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 10 am to 12 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River, NJ 08755. A celebration of Americo’s life will begin at 12 pm. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm at St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleums, 62 Cedar Grove Rd, Toms River, NJ 08753.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Americo Velasquez to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Americo resided in Rutherford, NJ for 43 years before relocating to Toms River in 2013, and will be remembered with gratitude and respect by all who knew and loved him.
