Anthony D. Candela

Anthony D. Candela, 90, was born on December 4, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, and passed away on July 11, 2026. A beloved and cherished presence to many, he will be remembered with deep respect for a life marked by loyalty, faith, and quiet strength.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Tony moved to Toms River, New Jersey, 41 years ago, bringing his entire family with him and building a life rooted in devotion and togetherness. In every season, he remained thoughtful and compassionate, offering steady support and care to those who depended on him.

A hard-working, self-employed entrepreneur, Tony built his career in the floor covering business, earning the affectionate nickname “Tony Rugs.” Through years of dedicated work, he became known not only for his perseverance, but also for the generous and selfless way he showed up for others—reliably, without fanfare, and with genuine concern.

Tony was predeceased by his daughter, Laura Candela, in 2017. He is survived by the love of his life of 69 years, his wife, Josephine (Ricco). He is also survived by his children, Helen Mulcahy and her husband Neil, and Leonard Candela and his wife Robin; his grandchildren, Lindsay, Briana (Chris), Neil (Mallory), Kelly-Jo (Rich), Justin (Amy) and Kylie; and his great-grandchildren, Riley, Chelsea, Brayden, Harrison, Olivia, Max, Violet, Zoey and Henry. He is also survived by his siblings, Frank Candela and his wife Cookie, and Nancy Marrano and her husband Nick, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In daily life, Tony took pride in keeping his property and cars spotless, a reflection of the care he brought to all he did. Above all, he treasured time with his family—especially the tradition of Sunday dinner, where his faithful heart and enduring love were felt most clearly.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18, 2026 10 am at St. Justin the Martyr, Toms River followed by interment of ashes to St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.
