

The son of Antonio and Felicidade Ruela, he was born in Murtosa, Portugal. He resided in Newark and Hillside before settling in Holiday City community of Toms River. Anthony emigrated to the United States in 1936 with his family and proudly served in the US Army from 1945-1946 in the Philippines. Prior to retiring, Anthony worked for Beach Electric for 40 years and served as a union trustee for Local 408.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Katie (nee Paglia) Ruela; his brother, Jose; and his sisters: Virginia Soares and Maria Batista.
Surviving are his daughters, Sandra Ruela and Denise Ruela; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A hardworking, trustworthy, and generous man, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 4-8PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 10am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Berkeley. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
