Pop - Several years ago, fate, brought me into the life of Gene, and his beautiful wife, Dolores. Gene had so many beautiful, interesting, great stories of his life to tell. My favorite was, Gene had parachuted out of a “perfectly good plane”, more then once! If you have aviation background, you would understand the humor in that statement,  I would say  so many times, “Gene you are a Pip” , soon Gene directed it should be “Pop” - Pop it was. He was a man who  cared for his family unconditionally, served his country up and beyond, and always volunteered and gave to his community. 

Pop will be missed terribly, but he is in  a better place.

Dad lived a life of service both to his country and the communities in which he lived. Raised in Clifton, New Jersey, he served in the U.S.   Army during WW2 as a EOD Specialist and then as an M.P. Later, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Radar Specialist. He married Dolores Hegeler in 1951 and they recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary together. Dad served his community first, as a volunteer firemen in Hawthorne, New Jersey. Later, after moving to Hardyston, New Jersey, he helped form and run the Hardyston Ambulance Squad. He retired in 1989 from Public Service and became an avid traveller. No matter where Dad went, he ran into someone he knew. Always outgoing and friendly, he was well liked by those he met. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, Eric and Donna Von Suskil (his son and daughter-in-law), Kurt Von Suskil ( his son ), and Gregory, Claudia, Lukas, and Max (his grandchildren). We will miss your smile and stories. Always in our hearts.
