Fred Hopke, 81, of Toms River, passed away peacefully on Friday Oct. 19, 2018 after a long illness. Born in New Haven, CT. he lived in Hillside NJ for many years before moving to Toms River in 2000. He was a member of the Hillside K of C Council 3197. Fred was a professional baseball player for 10 years. He was a volunteer hitting instructor at Seton Hall University where his team won the Big East Championship. He worked for Bristol-Meyers Squibb for 17 years and retired to Toms River to enjoy life at Atlantic City playing a lot of craps. Fred had a great personality and everyone wanted to sit by him to enjoy his humor and sharp wit.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Phylis Shubsda Hopke, his sons Fred and James (Dana); his daughter Nadine; and his grandchildren Jimmy and Allison.
