

Harry F. Guembel, "Pops" 95, passed away on February 2, 2026. Born on January 19, 1931, in Washington, DC, Harry grew up in Germany until the age of 15. He left Germany and attended high school in Forest Hills, Queens, NY. After high school, his family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, where he apprenticed as a baker with his uncle Alfred.
Harry was the owner of several bakeries in Northern New Jersey, the last being Mills Bakery in Wood-Ridge, NJ. He was a proud US Marine and quickly rose to the rank of Corporal within his unit.
He was married to the love of his life, Christl, who predeceased him in 2017. Harry is survived by his loving daughter, Heidi, and her husband, Jim. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, and cousins in Germany.
Harry enjoyed being with his granddog Charlie along with collecting things, tending to his plants, and watching soccer, football, and golf. He loved reading and everything History. He loved baking until the age of 93 and enjoyed listening to 50's and 60's music. He was a member of the Old Guard and the VFW.
Harry will be remembered for his enduring kindness and the positive impact he had on those around him. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. His sense of humor was infectious, and he just enjoyed being around people.
The family is very grateful to Bonnie and Mary for their care and compassion towards Pops for the past nine years.
A Celebration of Harry's life will be held at a later date.
