Irene Mihalek, 82, of Land O Lakes, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 18, 2019. Affectionately known as “Miss Irene”, she was a resident at Angels Senior living at Connerton. Appropriately named, as all of the nurses and staff were angels in the way they loved and cared for her. Before moving to Florida for the last five years, she lived in Toms River, New Jersey, for over 35 years. Mrs. Mihalek was born at home in Šenkvice, Slovakia, and came to the United States as a young woman. She met the love of her life, Steve, at a Slovak church dance in northern New Jersey. They were happily married for 45 years and were parishioners at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Toms River. For many years, Mrs. Mihalek worked as an Autoclave Technician at Community Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Mihalek – beloved and devoted mother, grandmother (Babka), sister, aunt, cousin, and friend - will be well remembered for her indomitable spirit, kindness and generosity, love of gardens, flowers, and the ocean, and being an outstanding cook and baker.
Surviving are her son, Ján Mihalek and his wife Vlada of Wesley Chapel, Florida and her daughter, Lydia Mihalek of Doylestown, Pennsylvania plus four grandchildren, Michael, Emily, Adam, and Alexander.
Visiting will be Tuesday, January 22 from 5-7 PM at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road in Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am Wednesday January 23 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart and Stroke Society.
