

Born in Belfast Ireland, he lived in North Jersey for many years before moving to the Toms River area in 1977. He was a New York Port Authority policeman for 20 years and the former broker at White Surf Realty in Ortley Beach. Jack was the former Commander of the American Legion Post 279 in Lincoln Park, NJ. He also was an avid fan of aviation having worked for several years at Robert Miller Airfield in Whiting, NJ. Jack and his wife Joanne owned a home in Cape May for over 25 years which they fondly referred to as their “Lake House”.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years Joanne Gustenhoven Rainey, two daughters, Lauren Gerding of Toms River and Karen and John Zaros of Seaside Hts., a son Michael and Liza Rainey of Chesapeake, VA; a sister Nancy Tylicke; 6 grandchildren, Christopher and Daniel Gerding, John Hayes, Kim Castor and Shannon and Andrew Rainey and 6 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Toby. He was predeceased by his brother Harry Rainey.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday Jan. 23, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755 and again from 9:0 am to 10:00 am on Wednesday January 24, 2018.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday in the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
