James graduated from North Bergen High School in 1966.
A proud Army Veteran, James served during the Vietnam War from 1968–1969, carrying that commitment with honor. He went on to work for Nabisco as a Sales Representative faithfully for 37 years before retiring in 2001. Even in retirement, James’s strong work ethic never truly slowed; he found genuine purpose in staying active, especially in his work with the Brick Township school district as a Custodian—approaching each day with the same honesty, reliability, and generosity of spirit that marked his life.
On June 6, 1970, James married the love of his life, Diane Murnane, and together they shared 56 years of devotion, partnership, and steadfast care. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his two sons, Christopher and Anthony (Kari); and his devoted grandson, Jack. Also surviving are his siblings, Grace Schwanse (Herb), Joseph Ormando (Margaret), and Sylvia Ormando.
James found joy in the simple, meaningful routines that become the heart of a life well lived. He enjoyed doing paint-by-number pictures, watching college football, and playing cards with his buddies. Saturday morning breakfast at the diner with the boys was a cherished tradition, as were afternoons spent enjoying Antique Car Auctions and Shows. Known for a warm sense of humor and an easy way with people, James could bring lightness to a room while remaining deeply respectful and true to himself.
He also gave his time and presence to the communities that mattered to him. James was a member of the Holiday City South Bingo Crew, served as a pool attendant at the Holiday City South Pool, and was a member of the VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America) and The Under the Hill Gang—connections that reflected both his loyalty and his generous willingness to show up for others.
