Born in Newark, he resided in Maplewood before settling in Toms River, where he lived most of his life.
John spent his entire career in the entertainment industry. As a DJ, he worked at numerous clubs in Seaside Heights and was an MC at many weddings and events. He was well known as the "Legendary Johnny D." He worked for the WRAT radio station and was also a district manager for Retro Fitness.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Gladys Douress.
Surviving is his daughter, Brielle Verga and her husband Tyler; his siblings: Diane McMurdo (Nicholas), Charles Douress (Clare), Susan Roselle (Philip); and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 4-8PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 10AM at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River.
