

John Lavin, 91, of Holiday City in Berkeley Township passed away on Sunday Sept. 22, 2019 at Community Medical Center. Born in Newark, he lived in Jersey City and then Clifton for 43 years before moving to Toms River 6 years ago. John was a bookbinder for many years but also had many other side jobs to provide for his seven children. John loved to sing and was a member of the St. Maximilian Choir and also belonged to a community choral group. He was an avid sports fan.
John was predeceased by his wife Mariann, his grandson Jason, his sister Patricia Murphy and his brother William McInerney. He is survived by three daughters, Nancy DeBianchi and her husband Henry of Toms River, NJ, Karen Lavin of Howell, and Joanne Sheehan and her husband Rob of River Vale; four sons, Joseph Lavin and his wife Linda of Cape May, John Lavin and his wife Jaci of Clifton, James Lavin and his wife Carol of Clifton, and Robert Lavin of Toms River; two sisters Claire Grach of Las Vegas, NV and Margaret Howard of Nanuet, NY; seven grandchildren, Marissa Ann, James, Tyler, Robert, Ryan, Megan and Jack.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday Sept. 25, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ 08755. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday Sept 26, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church 130 St. Maximilian Lane Toms River, NJ 08757. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery 340 Ridge Road North Arlington, NY 07031. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in John’s Memory.
