

John J. McAleavey of Berkeley Twp (formerly of Fords) passed away on Sunday December 4, 2011 at Community Medical Center. Born in Newark, he was raised in Irvington and lived in Fords for 35 years before moving to Berkeley Twp. 25 years ago. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WW II. He worked as a chief lineman for P.S.E.&G. in Irvington,for 35 years retiring 25 years ago. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords and member of the American Legion in Iselin. He was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Toms River.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan McGuiness McAleavey; three sons, John and Susan McAleavey, Daniel and Carol McAleavey, Michael and Elaine McAleavey; three daughters, Maureen and Tom Gibson, Nancy and Chip Robinson and Patrice Wasnak; three sisters, Ruthie Steele, Theresa McCourt and Pat Reynolds. Also survived by 10 grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 AM at St. Maximilan Kolbe RC Church Toms River. Interment will follow at the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
