Joseph Manno was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, beloved brother, and dear friend. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family.
Joseph attended Boys High School in Brooklyn, where he studied computer programming. He went on to build a career as a systems analyst with IBM and AT&T, working with some of the earliest forms of computer coding. His intelligence, dedication, and work ethic were hallmarks of his professional life.
After his years in Brooklyn, Joseph made his home in Piscataway, New Jersey, before eventually moving to Toms River. He also treasured his second home in Ortley Beach, where he spent much of his time enjoying the Jersey Shore. Weekends at the beach were among his greatest pleasures, filled with sunshine, familiar faces, and the simple joys of life. He loved music and dancing at Joey Harrison’s, making memories that would stay with him forever.
But above all else, Joseph’s greatest joy was his family. He loved spending time with his beloved wife, Patricia, to whom he remained devoted until the very end. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandson meant the world to him, and his love for them was immeasurable.
Some of Joseph’s fondest memories were made during Christmas Eve celebrations at his home, surrounded by his nieces and nephews, and during return trips to Brooklyn for Sunday dinners. These traditions brought him the happiness that came from being surrounded by the people he loved most. He also held a special place in his heart for his brothers-in-law, whom he loved dearly and missed deeply. He spoke fondly and often of Tommy, Mickey, and Kenny, keeping their memories close to his heart.
Joseph never forgot his Brooklyn beginnings. When asked about his early days, he would fondly recall riding the trolley to watch the Brooklyn Dodgers play at Ebbets Field. Those stories reflected his deep connection to his roots and the memories that shaped the man he became.
There is an Italian expression that describes Joseph perfectly: “un pezzo di pane,” meaning “a piece of bread.” It is a beautiful way of describing someone who is genuinely good, honest, kindhearted, and generous. Joseph was exactly that kind of man. He was someone you could count on, someone who loved without reservation, and someone whose goodness could be felt by everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Joseph leaves behind his beloved wife, Patricia Manno; his children, Lisa Carlson and Andrew Manno and his fiance Megan; his son-in-law, Kurt Carlson; and his cherished grandchildren, Andrew Manno, Ryan Bottone, Michael Manno, Connor Bottone, and Brady Manno. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Owen Bottone. He is survived by his sisters, Rose Langan and Beatrice Fabiano, along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Joseph’s life was not measured by professional accomplishments or material things, but by the love he gave, the memories he created, and the people whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, integrity, kindness, and family traditions that will continue for generations.
He was a good man. An honest man. A generous man. A devoted husband and a loving family man.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
